I'm not a Nerd?

I have just discovered that I have a fairly low nerd rating! Here is the result of this highly scientific assessment that certifies my low nerdiness:

I am nerdier than 18% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

In all honesty, i'm a little disappointed that I scored on the low end, since I took a whole bunch of Computer Science courses over the past year! I thought I would surely fall into at least the 50% range... ;) But I guess everything balances out, since my husband was rated a nerdiness of 87%!

Happy (Late) Halloween

It's a bit late, but Happy Halloween! In our building, the management usually organizes a haunted house for the tenants, so it's a great chance to enjoy the variety of costumes worn by both parents and children. At work I dressed up as a leprechaun, but it was a pretty cheap costume since it just consisted of an obnoxious green hat that I brought back from Ireland last year, along with a green beard, shirt, and cape. Maybe next year i'll plan my costume ahead of time!

Whipped No More

I regularly go to a small little Pakistani restaurant here in Toronto that is right across the street from my apartment. They probably serve the best haleem and nihari in the city, and i've always attributed the amazing food to Whipped. Who is Whipped you ask?

Well, this restaurant is comprised of two interesting characters, the owner and the cook. The owner, who looks like a brown version of Jimmy Kimmel, is one of those really loud but friendly guys that always has something to talk about with his customers, from the weather and astrology, to religion and politics. It's a good personality to have since he can make his customers feel important, which keeps them coming back. Unfortunately, the quiet and timid cook doesn't appear to receive the same friendly treatment from the owner. Every time I have gone into the restaurant, the owner is usually sitting near the cash register playing chess or solitaire on his computer, while the cook is literally roasting in front of the tandoor, cooking kebabs and naans, with sweat dripping down the sides of his face. I once observed a customer ask the owner for some chai, after which point the owner turned to the already abused cook and said 'Chai laga-do', which means 'put the tea on the stove'. The cook quietly obliged, and the owner then continued playing his game of chess and chatting with customers. On another occasion, I was once eating some tasty kebabs near the back of the restaurant when I noticed the cook in the back room slumping down on a sack of rice, looking completely exhausted, only to be hailed back into the kitchen a minute later to attend to the tandoor again. As you have probably figured out, 'Whipped' is the nickname that we gave to refer to the cook, since I never heard the owner refer to him by any formal name.

Unfortunately, I went into the restaurant a few days ago and noticed that Whipped was nowhere in sight. I asked the owner where he was, and it turns out that Whipped simply stopped coming into work one day! Good for him I say! Unfortunately, it's not good for me since i've noticed that the haleem isn't as good as it used to be. But at least the owner has to move his butt now, so hopefully he'll appreciate Whipped a little bit more now and will maybe get down on his hands and knees and beg for him to return.

Eid Celebration & Tasty Delights

One of the great things about Eid is all of the food, especially after a month of fasting! After attending the morning prayer at the Madina Masjid on Danforth, we decided to get some breakfast at the Golden Griddle on Carlton St. since I had a craving for some Belgian waffles. They had a pretty good brunch buffet, so in addition to waffles I enjoyed some pancakes, taters, hash browns, pasta, and a variety of fresh fruits. Nice! What was funny was that after we got there, we were waiting for over 10 minutes before anyone served us. We felt rejected in the corner table, but when the waitress finally saw us she said "Uh oh!" and then came running and gave me a big hug and said sorry. It was nicest sorry ever, so it made up for the delay. After heading home, we made some veggie samosas and spicy chicken-potato cutlets. The cutlets were amazing, so i'll post the recipe someday so that others in the blogging universe can enjoy these tasty delights as well! Then for dinner, it was time for some Chicken Biryani and Achar Gosht (boneless beef in a thick spicy gravy). Num num! Ok bye for now!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Eid celebration, filled with lots of tasty delights and the company of friends and family. Eid is one of the two major celebrations in Islam, and we here in Toronto will be celebrating it today. Eid Mubarak!

The Blog Experience

Hello! This is my first experience with blogs. Life is all about experiences, so hence the name of this blog. Welcome!

I'm originally from Faisalabad, Pakistan, but I am now living in Toronto, Canada. It's been a pretty fun experience thus far, so I hope to post some of my adventures in the big city on this blog, for whoever chooses to stop by.

Bye for now!
